Terms of Service

The rules for using our free, independent AI-writing pre-check and related resources.

These Terms are provided in English. Any translation is offered for convenience, and the English version controls if there is a conflict.

Full terms Last updated September 15, 2026 · 9 sections
  1. Acceptance and Eligibility

By accessing or using Turnitin AI Detector, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the site. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, use the service only with permission from a parent or legal guardian and in accordance with your school or institution’s rules.

  2. What the Service Provides

Turnitin AI Detector provides a free, independent pre-check that estimates whether submitted writing may contain patterns associated with AI-generated text. Results are produced by our own model. They are not official Turnitin results, and this service does not provide an official Turnitin report. Features, limits, and availability may change as we maintain or improve the service.

  3. Responsible and Permitted Use

Use the service only for lawful purposes and only with content you own or have permission to submit. You may not use it to violate academic policies, misrepresent authorship, infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, distribute harmful material, interfere with site security, overload the service, scrape it through unauthorized automated means, reverse engineer protected systems, or help another person do any of these things.

  4. How to Interpret Results

AI indicators and similarity signals are estimates intended to support review. They may include false positives or false negatives and can vary between tools. An AI indicator cannot prove authorship, and a similarity match does not automatically establish plagiarism. Do not use a score by itself to accuse, penalize, grade, or make another high-impact academic decision. Review the writing, citations, sources, drafts, and relevant institutional policy before reaching a conclusion.

  5. Your Content and Our Content

You retain any rights you have in the text or files you submit. You give us only the limited permission needed to process that content and return the requested result. Submitted content is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, including deletion within 24 hours. The site’s software, design, branding, graphics, and original materials are owned by us or our licensors and may not be copied, modified, distributed, or commercially exploited without permission, except where the law allows.

  6. Third-Party Services and Links

The site may link to independent third-party websites or services, including services that provide more detailed reports. Those services have their own terms, privacy practices, features, and fees. We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their content, availability, security, or actions. A link does not make the third party an official partner or imply endorsement. Review the third party’s terms before using its service.

  7. Service Availability and Changes

We may update, limit, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service when reasonably necessary for maintenance, security, legal compliance, or product changes. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. We may restrict access when we reasonably believe these Terms have been violated or the service is being misused.

  8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The service and its results are provided “as is” and “as available” for informational and review purposes. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, loss of data, academic decisions, or actions taken in reliance on a result. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.

  9. Changes, Severability, and Contact

We may update these Terms when the service or applicable requirements change. The revised Terms will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later. Questions about these Terms may be sent to support@turnitin.academy.
